The winners and runners-up of The Orwell Society/NUJ Young Journalist’s Award 2023 received their awards at Sutton Courtenay, where George Orwell, journalist, author of books including Nineteen Eighty-Four, Animal Farm and Down and Out in Paris and London and famous for his six rules for writing, is buried.

Young journalists win prizes for writing a column or review influenced by George Orwell’s work. Gwenno Robinson won the column category.

After more than a century the union voted narrowly to abolish the titles Mother of Chapel and Father of Chapel. Camilla Bracheshi supported a young member's seat on the Equality Council.
