Candlelight vigil in solidarity with journalists in Gaza

  • 28 Nov 2023

Journalists killed in the Israeli attacks on Gaza were remembered by a candlelit vigil in Brussels organised by the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) and NUJ.

Pamela Moriniere, IFJ spokesperson, said that at least 58 journalists, including 51 in Gaza, had been killed since the beginning of the conflict on October 7. She said: “It is now extremely hard to be a journalist in the West Bank and Gaza. In the past we have taken cases of targeting and killing of Palestinian journalists  to the International Criminal Court and we will do it again for the killings that have occurred in this war."

The IFJ has told the Israeli government it must “take explicit measures to protect the lives of journalists covering the war, in accordance with international law“.  Sara Lewis, of the NUJ Brussels branch, said: "Journalists are deliberately targeted and killed in Palestine. "
