Time off for trade union duties

Provided your union is independent and recognised by your employer, you are entitled to reasonable paid time off to carry out your union duties.

The ACAS Code of Practice on Time Off for Trade Union Duties and Activities details examples of duties and activities.

Union members are also entitled to reasonable time off for union activities, as opposed to duties. Your employer does not have to pay for this. Activities include, for example, attending union information meetings.
