NUJ members vote for industrial action in pay dispute with Al Jazeera

  • 19 Oct 2022

After almost three years of no pay increase, NUJ members at Al Jazeera have voted 96.97 per cent in favour of industrial action and 100 per cent in favour of industrial action short of a strike.

After months of negotiations,  they rejected Al Jazeera’s offer of a 4.5 per cent increase for 2022 pay, which would not extend to 2023 and a subsequently a non-consolidated lump sum of £500 for anyone earning below £50,000 a year following a session with the Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service.

Bectu members, representing technicians and other staff, at the broadcaster have also balloted for strike action.
