NUJ World Service briefing December 2022

  • 29 Nov 2022

The BBC is cutting the World Service’s budget by £28.5m per year from April 2023, with 382 posts (almost one in five) to go. This NUJ briefing explains the impact of the cuts to the service.

The World Service provides unrivalled journalism which shines a light on all parts of the globe. It is the world's largest external broadcaster in terms of reception area, language selection and audience reach. It provides many millions with trustworthy and impartial news they are unable to get at home. These cuts will severely undermine the BBC’s reputation as a world-class broadcaster and its goal to provide  impartial, quality news across the globe.
