NUJ statement on reporting during the May elections
Michelle Stanistreet, NUJ general secretary, said: “The NUJ has warned political parties across the UK against using the Covid-19 regulations as a way of restricting the reporting of events, campaigns, photocalls and press conferences.
" It is perfectly possible to make these events Covid-19 compliant and safe for all involved. Journalists and photographers have a vital role in covering the democratic process of the elections for the Scottish Parliament, Senedd and local elections in England. The union expects its members to act responsibly and also expects all political parties to be accessible to the full range of the press.”
