Happy birthday SEISS – but many freelances left out of the Covid-19 scheme will not be celebrating today
Friday 26 March marks the anniversary of the government’s Covid-19 aid package for freelances.
Disabled workers have found themselves on the pandemic’s brutal frontline, Frances O’Grady, TUC general secretary, told the Disabled Workers’ Conference.
While welcoming the extension of the aid schemes, the NUJ is concerned that many freelances remain excluded and says the industry will need to adopt the union’s news recovery plan if it is to prosper following Covid-19 restrictions.
It was the self-employed who saw work disappear almost from the outset of the pandemic, survey finds.
The National Union of Journalists has written to the Chancellor asking him to ensure freelances get a fair deal in his budget – and redress for the millions of self-employed who have missed out on aid during the pandemic.
