NUJ responds to reports of Labour banning Declassified journalists from party conference
The NUJ has responded to reports that Labour has denied three Declassified UK journalists media passes to its party conference.
Laura Davison, NUJ general secretary, said:
"Reports that Declassified UK journalists have once again been denied access to the Labour Party conference are troubling. Journalists must be able to report on and question political parties - especially those who are in power.
"This comes just weeks after Reform chose to ban journalists, and a year after the Labour Party revoked the passes of Rivkah Brown, Novara Media reporter, and Owen Jones, Guardian columnist, as well as denying passes to Declassified journalists.
"The continued exclusion of journalists from major political events risks undermining press freedom and public confidence in political parties' willingness to be scrutinised.
"Political parties must demonstrate their commitment to press freedom, freedom of expression and the public's right to be informed. We urge the Labour Party to explain clearly why Declassified journalists have been denied access and to rethink its decision."
