BBC and NUJ end dispute on rota changes at Newshour and The World Tonight
Today (22 May) NUJ members have agreed to accept a revised rota proposal to end their dispute with the BBC.
This will mean that strikes that were planned for Sunday 24 May and Monday 25 May have been cancelled and members will cease all action short of a strike.
On Monday (18 May) members at Newshour and The World Tonight took part in strike action over the dispute and have been working to rule since then.
The final compromise sees some shifts being reduced in length with fewer additional shifts being added to the rota than was originally proposed, down from 26 to 13. There will also be no changes made to working patterns for staff on The World Tonight.
John Sailing, NUJ broadcasting organiser, said:
“This has been a difficult dispute and members have shown incredible strength, resilience and solidarity throughout. I’m glad that we have finally been able to agree a deal that will end the dispute and mean that members can get back to producing brilliant journalism and serving audiences.”
