NUJ statement on proposed job cuts at The Telegraph
The union is engaging with the company's leadership on the scale and impact of cuts.
Laura Davison, NUJ general secretary, said:
"News of proposed cuts at The Telegraph comes as a shock to journalists only a few months under Axel Springer's new ownership. The company's 'admiration' for the title expressed during its acquisition must include recognition of the talent and skill held by Telegraph journalists, now rightly seeking clarity on the scale of redundancies and their impact.
"As the union requests detail on proposals including how changes will materialise, the need for meaningful engagement is more important than ever. The NUJ's Telegraph chapel has met to discuss proposals and will assess next steps as vital information is received."
