This 60-minute FEU online workshop will identify the responsibilities and duties that a client has to a freelance, using UK health and safety legislation.

It will explore how trade unions can play a role in ensuring work safety, challenge poor practices and build collective strength among staff and self-employed colleagues.

Workshop aims:

  • Identify challenges faced by freelancers.
  • Develop confidence to understand and use legal frameworks for health and safety.
  • Be clear what a client’s legal duties and responsibilities are.
  • Consider the support available from your trade union.

Tracy Walsh is an educator, researcher and trade union activist, who has worked for many years with the Trades Union Congress and affiliated trade unions. She is currently studying part-time for a PhD at Greenwich University, which explores the relationship between gender, race and class in British trade unions. Tracy is an active member of the University and Colleges Union.
