NUJ welcomes recognition at gal-dem
The union has secured trade union recognition at award-winning media publication gal-dem
Following extensive talks with the company, the NUJ and gal-dem have agreed on this positive step. Recognition means the union can negotiate on staff pay and terms and conditions on behalf of employees at the company. The NUJ gal-dem chapel said:
“This is a huge moment for gal-dem! gal-dem staff past and present have been collectively organising for over two years to reach this milestone. It was a long and challenging process, but we’re extremely thrilled to now be a unionised workplace. At gal-dem we have always been committed to supporting and giving a voice to our varied communities. Unionising will only empower and uplift our integral values and continue to make gal-dem a safe and fair place to work.
"We’d like to say thank you to the NUJ, gal-dem staff past and present and management for all the support, hard work and commitment gone into making this happen. We want other workers to know that workplace organising works.”
