NUJ LGBT+ network event for LGBT+ History Month

The NUJ’s LGBT+ network invites you to celebrate LGBT+ History Month from 6pm to 7pm on Tuesday 21 February. Guest speaker is Joe Ali, who will be talking about his time covering stories from people in Wales’ LGBTQ+ community as part of the NCTJ’s Community News Project. Joe says: “It was my first job in journalism, and it was a dream come true. It’s enabled me to get those skills to report on the LGBTQ+ community and to work on stories that are really helpful and beneficial to that community.”

Joe later received a Reach PLC editorial award for his work, which included his account of young transgender woman Alia’s experiences of conversion therapy when growing up in Cardiff. Joe met Alia when covering the successes of the Welsh Ballroom Community. Joe now has a new role with Pink News.

Come along and hear Joe – then Ryan Hesketh, the event chair, will open up the evening up for a general chat and whatever issues are on people’s minds.

Look forward to seeing you then.
