Sudan's Sadiq Ibrahim Ahmed has been released
30 July 2019
Sadiq Ibrahim Ahmed, president of the Federation of African Journalists (FAJ) and head of the Sudanese Journalists Union (SJU) was released by the Sudanese military authorities on July 29 after five days of arbitrary detention.
The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) welcomed his release but demanded the Sudanese military explain the reasons for his arrest.
Anthony Bellanger, IFJ general secretary, said:
"We welcome the release of our comrade Sadiq Ibrahim Ahmed but strongly condemn the circumstances in which he was arrested. Being five days under arrest and incommunicado without any explanation is unacceptable. We urge the Sudanese military and other Sudanese relevant authorities to immediately explain the reasons for his arrest."
