Still no answers three years after death of Terry Lloyd
21 March 2006
Three years after the death of Terry Lloyd, no inquest has yet begun. Tomorrow (22 March) marks the third anniversary of the death of the committed ITN foreign correspondent and an NUJ member.
Terry Lloyd was killed at the start of the war in Iraq, on 22 March 2003. He was caught in crossfire between American and Iraqi forces.
As well as commemorating the tragic loss of a journalist's life, the NUJ is calling on the Oxfordshire Coroner's Office to explain why the inquest has yet to begin.
Paul McLaughlin, NUJ National Broadcasting Organiser, said:
"There can be no valid reason why this inquest cannot begin. The family have been left hanging, not clear about the circumstances surrounding this tragedy but also unable to move on.
"It is shameful that bureaucratic inertia appears to be getting in the way of the search for truth."
The NUJ is calling for immediate action to bring this matter to a conclusion.
