South Yorks chapel calls off mandatory meeting

19 September 2011

Journalists at South Yorkshire Newspapers have called off a mandatory chapel meeting as a gesture of goodwill. The NUJ chapel has returned to work after suspending their indefinite strike to allow for negotiations with the Johnston Press-owned company.

A chapel spokesperson said:

"We always wanted to negotiate with the company and made several offers to do so during the eight weeks we were out on strike.
"Talks have begun and we are cautiously optimistic at the way they are progressing.
"We hope the company will take the cancellation of today's action in the spirit of reconciliation in which it it has been made."
