NUJ celebrates union recognition for Newsquest Local Democracy Reporters

20 November 2020

This week the Central Arbitration Committee (CAC) has confirmed the NUJ application to secure trade union recognition for Newsquest Local Democracy Reporters has been accepted.

Michelle Stanistreet, NUJ general secretary, said:

"This is brilliant news for the union and the result is a testament to the collective hard work and persistence of NUJ members and reps working as Local Democracy Reporters throughout Newsquest."

For a trade union to be able to negotiate with an employer on behalf of any group of workers about pay and working conditions, it needs to be recognised by that employer.

Now that recognition has been granted for Newsquest Local Democracy Reporters, representatives from the company and the union will work together to draw up a new recognition agreement.
