Penguin Random House solidarity

29 May 2019

In response to Bethany Patch's piece for the Guardian, writing as a book editor at Penguin Random House and union reps for the Media and Entertainment Arts Alliance in Australia, the NUJ offered its support and solidarity.

NUJ members at Penguin and Random House in the UK have a proud history of unionisation and have long been trade union recognised workplaces.

Following the 2013 merger, a joint NUJ/Unite chapel was formed, which works collaboratively and productively with management in the interests of both our members and the company as a whole, ensuring PRH UK is an industry leader in the way it treats its staff.

In a statement the combined PRH Unite/NUJ chapel said:

"We support our Australian colleagues in their efforts to replicate this healthy and successful working relationship."

The book industry isn't dead. That's just an excuse to keep salaries low writes Bethany Patch in The Guardian
