NUJ wins London Living Wage for science interns
29 June 2012
The NUJ has successfully negotiated the London Living Wage rate for interns working for the British Science Association.
Three-month internships for science communications workers on the BSA's scheme Science in Society had originally been advertised at the statutory Minimum Wage (£6.08 per hour). The Association has now agreed to pay the London Living Wage rate of £8.30.
The deal was negotiated by Francis Sedgemore, a science journalist and NUJ Lewisham branch chair. He wrote on the Lewisham NUJ website:
"Hats off to the British Science Association."
