NUJ supports UCU/NUS campaign against tuition fee increases
8 December 2010
The Government has announced that the parliamentary vote on the increase in student tuition fees in England will take place on Thursday. The University and College Union (UCU) and the National Union of Students (NUS) are organising a programme of campaigning action in the run up to the parliamentary vote and are seeking support from other unions.
Jeremy Dear, NUJ General Secretary, said:
"The National Union of Journalists supports the campaign by school, college and university students and staff in defence of further and higher education for all.
"Education should always be a right and not a privilege, our educational system should not be further eroded by a government intent on make us pay: higher fees, job losses, course and EMA cuts. We are pleased to support the UCU and NUS campaign and see a new generation take action and fight back."
The NUJ are encouraging chapels, branches and NUJ members to support the education day of action this week.
