Union achieves formal recognition agreement at Arab broadcaster.

The NUJ is pleased to announce it has achieved a formal trade union recognition agreement at Alaraby TV, securing collective bargaining rights for editorial workers at the company.

Alaraby TV is home to more than 400 media staff and was launched in January 2015. It broadcasts a variety of programs and news in Arabic – covering society, politics, entertainment and culture. The network has bureaus in various capital cities worldwide and their headquarters are in London.

Paul Siegert, NUJ national broadcasting organiser, said:

"We are delighted to reach a voluntary recognition agreement with Alaraby TV. It means the NUJ will be negotiating on pay and conditions but we will also be able to ensure our members have a say on a range of other issues and are properly represented in the decision making process. Our members have worked hard to reach this agreement.
"We look forward to working more closely with Alaraby TV in the future. I'm sure this agreement will be mutually beneficial for everyone."

Abbas Nasser, Alaraby TV's channel director, said:

"We are happy to collaborate with the National Union of Journalists. This makes Alaraby the only Arab media outlet to work with the NUJ which reflects our commitment to the principles of fairness and justice. It also reflects the values that Alaraby believe in and our readiness to put these values into practice."
