NUJ members at LexisNexis vote for strike action
5 August 2011
NUJ members in the editorial teams at LexisNexis voted strongly in favour of strike action in response to the current pay dispute.
The vote was 76% in favour of strike action with a 78% turnout in the ballot. The vote in favour of action short of a strike was 88% in favour.
The chapel is to meet to consider what action to take on Monday 8 August.
Sylvia Courtnage, Mother of Chapel, and Dan Meredith, Father of Chapel, said:
"This excellent result shows how strongly members feel about the justice of their case for a decent pay increase. The current offer is well below inflation.
"Members have accepted low settlements over the previous two years in an effort to help the company ride out the recession. Now it is time for members to receive a fair reward for all the extra effort they have been putting in."
Michelle Stanistreet, NUJ general secretary, praised the determination of NUJ members at LexisNexis to fight for a fair deal and said:
"The union wants staff to be rewarded fairly for their hard work. In some cases, people have been with the company for years, yet have received little in return for their accrued knowledge and experience. The vote shows the Chapel's determination to take action to achieve a fair deal for members."
