NUJ members at LexisNexis name days for strike action
9 August 2011
NUJ members at LexisNexis met on Monday in the wake of their decisive industrial action ballot result. They voted to take three days of strike action later this month.
At a big chapel meeting, members unanimously voted to take strike action on Friday 19 August, Thursday 25 August and Friday 26 August 2011. Members demanded urgent talks at conciliation service ACAS in order to avert the strike.
The chapel balloted for action in response to the current pay offer of 2.2 per cent.
NUJ chapel rep Sylvia Courtnage said:
"It is clear that members understand the need to demonstrate to the company the depth of feeling. Many have had to take on extra work over recent months, yet there seems to have been little tangible reward for our efforts."
Fellow NUJ committee member Dan Meredith added:
"Our members are highly committed, professional individuals. For us, taking strike action is a last resort and something we have tried extremely hard to avoid. We urge the company to enter into meaningful negotiations to resolve this dispute."
Michelle Stanistreet, NUJ general secretary, said:
"Our members are sending a clear message to management at LexisNexs – get back round the table and negotiate a sensible, fair pay deal. After several years of paltry pay rises, members are determined to get a rise that truly reflects their loyalty, commitment and sheer hard work. Chapel members are to be congratulated on their strong stance."
