NUJ commission: guidelines on reporting Islamophobia

12 November 2018

The NUJ and the Scottish Parliament's Cross-Party Group on Tackling Islamophobia are commissioning guidelines for journalists on how best to report on Muslim issues. Freelance members who have experience of reporting on religious or ethical issues are invited to apply.
The deadline for applications is noon on Friday 30 November and they should be emailed to nujscotland@nuj.org.uk. The NUJ reserves the right not to engage any of the applicants at the end of the process.

The deadline for the draft publication is Friday 22 February. The work will be reviewed by a panel headed by Professor Peter Hopkins of Newcastle University. The publication should be around 3,000 words, with a shorter condensed set of guidelines of 800 words, similar in format to the NUJ's guidelines for reporting race. The final work will be distributed in print and digital formats.
