NUJ achieves pay increase at Express Newspapers

22 February 2017

NUJ representatives met management yesterday, Tuesday 21 February 2017, and union reps are pleased that after eight years of campaigning, the company has finally agreed to offer a pay rise backdated to January 2017. The company is offering a 2 per cent increase to staff earning less than £60,000 per year, a £1,200 increase to anyone earning above that and a 2 per cent rise to casuals working at shift rates up to and including £153.

Michelle Stanistreet, NUJ general secretary, said:

"After eight years of pay freezes at Express Newspapers this offer is a welcome result of our pay negotiations, and testament to the hard work put in by our FoC Richard Palmer. Our chapel will discuss the offer when they meet and we hope this marks the start of an improvement in industrial relations at the group."
