More jobs cut at News International titles

21 October 2011

News International has announced plans to cut 150 editorial posts at The Times and Sunday Times.

Michelle Stanistreet, NUJ general secretary said in response to the announcement:

"The announcement to cut more journalist jobs at The Times and Sunday Times represents the latest example of Murdoch and News International trashing its own staff and in particular its loyal journalists.
"To do this on the same day that the shareholders are calling for changes at the top demonstrates the contempt shown by the company to staff and once again demonstrates that without the right to have independent trade union representation, journalists at Wapping have no power to protect themselves.
"The NUJ is urging all journalists at News International to contact the NUJ for advice and support. We want to work with staff at The Times and Sunday Times to defend jobs and fight for quality and ethical journalism."
