Johnston Press plan more cuts at south coast titles
23 December 2008
Johnston Press have announced today that they plan to slash eight more editorial jobs across their southern division. Four production jobs, three photographers and a sports journalist face the axe – because of centralisation and reduced pagination.
The offices affected are Hastings, Worthing, Eastbourne, Christchurch, Portsmouth and Horsham. Three editorial jobs were lost at Worthing in September and five at Portsmouth in November.
Don Mackglew, NUJ assistant organiser for newspapers, said:
"We are very concerned that hard-pressed staff are going to be expected to cope with even fewer people working at these centres. We will be looking at the health and safety implications.
"I will be talking to our members straight after the holiday and taking up their concerns with management in the first week of January."
