ITV members vote yes to national staff agreement

5 August 2013

A single agreement covering terms and conditions for all ITV news centres has been agreed following a ballot of members.

The agreement replaces the previous local house agreements for each ITV region. The vote was 65 per cent to sign the national agreement and 35 per cent to reject the agreement; Bectu, the broadcasting union, also voted to accept.

Sue Harris, NUJ national broadcast organiser, said:

"This is a positive step forward and will allow the unions to address pay and conditions and other matters collectively and across all regions with ITV management. Talks are continuing over a proper pay and progression structure for on screen journalists across ITV regional news.
"It is hoped the new agreement will ensure a journalist's experience is recognised and appropriately rewarded, as well as creating a clear career structure.
"The latest figures show that ITV's fortunes have turned around and the company's growth and profits are in double figures. The management can take credit for this strong performance, but they must realise that it has been built upon the hard work and talent of staff.
"That is why the NUJ, in its joint pay claim with Bectu and Unite in September, will want to ensure that staff are properly rewarded for putting ITV in this strong position."

The single agreement will apply to staff working in regional news operations in the following licence areas: Border/Tyne Tees, Yorkshire, Granada, Central, Wales, West, Meridian, London and Anglia.
