16 July 2014
Wednesday 16 July marks 200 days of imprisonment of Al Jazeera journalists Peter Greste, Mohamed Fahmy and Baher Mohamed.
The NUJ is supporting colleagues at Al Jazeera English who are campaigning for their release and the release of all Egyptian journalists who have been attacked and denied the right to press freedom.
Following a meeting to vote for strike action over pay, reps at the BBC took time to show their solidarity with colleagues at Al Jazeera.
Please join the protest by Tweeting/Facebooking pictures of yourself and colleagues wearing a gag. Send your pictures to email@example.com
Abdel Fatah al-Sisi, Egypt's president has acknowledged that the heavy sentences have had a "very negative" impact on his country's reputation, saying he wished they had never been put on trial. We must continue to put pressure on this shameful regime and fight for the rights and safety of our colleagues working in Egypt.
