Express strike threat lifted
21 April 2008
NUJ members at Express Newspapers in London and Broughton have voted to accept a deal that will lead to long-hoped-for talks on productivity.
Journalists at the Express and Star have opposed moves by the company to outsource work to Broughton during the past few years and management has now agreed to discuss bringing work back in-house.
Chapel members believe they stand to gain considerably from a potential agreement on outsourced work. Meetings on both sites agreed to accept a pay rise of 3 per cent, backdated to 1 January.
It is expected that productivity savings will result in an improved deal for journalists and may substantially improve job security. The decision lifts the imminent threat of strike action at the Express and Star.
