Election time on The Journalist
22 September 2014
It's election time again and NUJ members have the opportunity to vote to decide who will be the editor of The Journalist for the next 5 year term of office.
Under the NUJ’s rules, editors of the union magazine have editorial independence over its content and are elected by a ballot of all members every five years.
Following the recent deadline for applications, two candidates are standing in the election – Christine Buckley and Tim Dawson.
Both candidates answer questions about how they will approach the role of editor in a special insert about the election in the October edition of The Journalist, which goes out to members next week. Read the election leaflet for both candidates.
Ballot papers will be sent out on Wednesday 1 October and members have until midday on Wednesday 5 November to return their vote.
If you are eligible to vote but do not receive a ballot paper by 8 October then please email firstname.lastname@example.org to request a replacement ballot paper.
The result will be announced on Thursday 6 November.
Some branches are organising hustings where you will get a chance to meet the candidates in person and ask questions about the issues that matter to you – check out the list below.
Regardless of who you vote for, please do exercise your right to vote! This is your opportunity to decide the direction and priorities of your union magazine for the next 5 year term.
