Dublin vigil to mark the murder of Jamal Khashoggi

16 October 2019

This month marks the first anniversary of the murder of Saudi Arabian journalist and human rights activist Jamal Khashoggi.

The NUJ is encouraging union members and NUJ allies to attend the vigil in Dublin to ensure that his brutal murder is not forgotten.

Jamal was murdered inside the Saudi consulate in Istanbul in October 2018.

He was murdered on 2 October, but the Saudi government did not acknowledge the killing until 20 October 2018.

Throughout the world events are taking place in his memory this month.

On Monday 21 October, the NUJ will join with members of Amnesty International Ireland and the Army of Bees in hosting a vigil at the Saudi Arabian Embassy, 6-7 Fitzwilliam Square, Dublin, D02 W270 from 18.00 - 19.00.

Saudi journalist Abudulaziz Almoayyad is CEO of the Army of Bees, an online media agency whose first supporter was Jamal Khashoggi. Abudulaziz is coordinating the involvement of the Saudi community in Ireland in this event and we hope that as many trade union members, especially media workers, will attend the vigil.
