NUJ communications - GDPR
11 May 2018
A message to members from the NUJ general secretary Michelle Stanistreet -
Communicating with our members about all the work we do standing up for journalists and journalism is critical. Your input and involvement, with the union’s collective weight, makes a massive difference - on issues ranging from campaigns against surveillance, protecting journalistic sources and fighting off copyright grabs, to lobbying for action to secure the future of local newspapers, fighting for equal pay and offering solidarity to jailed journalists abroad.
Forthcoming new legislation will impact on how we can keep you up to date with this vital work. The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) kicks in from 25 May 2018, and to prepare we’re contacting every member to ensure we have accurate contact details. Members will then be asked to opt in to receiving communications, or not.
We want as many members as possible to continue to stay connected and in communication with the NUJ’s work.
There are 3 easy ways to ensure we have an accurate personal email address, phone number and home address for you.
Update contact information online
Go to www.nuj.org.uk and log in – follow the ‘my profile’ link on the right side of the webpage, and check out your personal details - if the information is wrong then you can click the ‘change these details’ option that appears on the left side of the webpage and update the information.
Forgotten your log-in details? Click the ‘forgotten password’ option on the top right side of the NUJ website homepage, enter your email address and you will be sent a reminder with your website log in details. Usually your NUJ website username is the email address we have on your membership record.
Email our membership team
Email firstname.lastname@example.org with your up to date contact details, or any changes you haven’t yet told us of.
Some members have told us they only want to receive communication by post - if you’re one of them, please call the NUJ membership team on 0207 843 3701 and ask them to check and update your NUJ membership records for you. When it comes to opting in to future communications, we will send you a consent form by post together with a freepost response envelope.
If you have any problems accessing the website then please email: email@example.com
