Bolton Newsquest journalists to strike
8 February 2011
Journalists at Newsquest newspapers in Bolton have voted to take strike action in their continuing dispute over pay. Twenty-one NUJ members took part in the ballot, with 16 voting to strike: a 76 per cent vote for action.
Chris Morley, NUJ organiser, said:
"Our members are giving Newsquest management a clear and consistent message. They are not prepared to tolerate management's cavalier and uncaring treatment of hardworking and skilled professionals.
Michelle Stanistreet, NUJ deputy general secretary, said:
"Newsquest and its American owners have been relentless in their pursuit of higher profits at the expense of journalists. The growing anger amongst journalists throughout the group and their determination to bring the company to the negotiating table is clear."
