BBC and unions reach agreement on pay

29 May 2009

The NUJ and sister broadcasting unions, BECTU and Unite, at the BBC have released a joint statement with the BBC on the 2009 pay negotiations. All parties have agree to a flat rate increase of £450 per annum.

The following text was released today:

"The BBC and representatives of the trades unions met yesterday to agree the pay settlement for 2009.
"All parties recognised that the negotiations were taking place in exceptional economic circumstances. Both the BBC and the unions acknowledged the role that BBC staff had played in a challenging environment of 7,000 post closures in the last 5 years, and also that the BBC had previously indicated that any pay settlement this year would have to be very modest and targeted towards the lowest paid.
"With these factors in mind, a flat rate increase of £450 per annum was agreed. It was agreed that all allowances will be frozen at their present level."

The NUJ said that it would continue to keep its members updated via email and local reps.
