As the Trade Union Act's provisions become law, the labour movement faces a serious challenge. However Brexit develops, it is clear we face a Tory government in power for the foreseeable future, continuing attacks on trade unions and pursuing the politics of austerity. The left cannot afford to be divided, as we have been in recent referendums. It is time for us to unite to build a resistance and defence for workers in struggle.
The TUCG aims to be at the forefront of campaigning in Parliament and beyond, working our member unions, MPs and peers from all parties to promote positive politics which benefit workers, disabled people, women and the poorest in our society. As a movement we urgently need a campaign on pay and policies which invest in public services, the public ownership of key industries and the promotion of a just society for all.
Chair: Bob Monks (URTU general secretary).
Speakers: Janice Godrich (PCS president); Steve Gillan (POA general secretary); Mick Cash (RMT general secretary); and Mary Senior (UCU Scotland official).
All welcome, refreshments provided.
