Freelances need to pitch for work and to do deals. Whether you are a writer, photographer, reporter, subeditor, broadcaster or whatever, you will benefit from knowing how to present your work and your ideas so as to make them most attractive to clients, from understanding what goes into making a deal and how you might improve on that first offer.
Through role-play exercises and discussion, participants will work on the skills and attitudes needed to try to get more commissions and more money. Participants are asked to bring a real idea on the day that they want to pitch.
Learn how to:
- Understand the psychology of pitching and dealing
- Identify outlets
- Pitch ideas with deals in mind
- Learn successful phone techniques
- Interact with editors
- Think about fees
- Ask for more money
- Discuss your brief
- Negotiate copyright and expenses
- Role plays to put ideas into practice
