Following the murder of Lyra McKee, the NUJ will pay tribute to her life and work at this event to mark World Press Freedom Day and discuss the challenges facing journalists and press freedom throughout the world.
- Michelle Stanistreet, NUJ general secretary, who will have just returned from a trip to Palestine, where members of the Palestinian Journalists Syndicate face daily intimidation and attacks carried out by Israeli occupation forces and Palestinian security forces.
- Jeremy Corbyn, Labour Party leader.
- Kasra Naji, NUJ member and special correspondent BBC Persian TV, will talk about the camapign of intimidation by the Iranian authorities against journalists in the UK and their families. In July 2017, the Iranian government started criminal investigations into the activities of journalists and other staff working for BBC Persian, alleging their work constituted a crime against Iran's national security. - Carmen Draghici, senior lecturer in law, The City Law School, University of London, who drafted the IFJ UN convention on safety.

The event will be chaired by Mariela Kohon, TUC senior international officer.
The event costs £10 to attend and all money will go towards the International Federation of Journalists' Safety Fund which provides financial and practical assistance to journalists and the families of journalists at risk.
