Headland House, 72 Acton Street, London WC1X 9NB
This course is the first part of the NUJ reps' training programme. There are two others. After completing all three, you can feel confident that you have covered all you need to know in order to deal with your members’ day to day issues. The courses are customised to meet the needs of NUJ reps who work in diverse ways, such as in chapels, branches and on NUJ committees.
We ask that you do the courses in order, beginning with Stage 1, as the programme gradually builds on your knowledge and experience.
Stages 1, 2 and 3 are aimed at new and more experienced reps. The courses are updated on a regular basis to keep up to date with changes in workplace practices and the law and so can be used as a refresher for experienced reps.
This course is designed to cover:
- Identifying the main roles, responsibilities and skills related to being an NUJ representative.
- Understanding the structure of the NUJ and the union’s links to local, national and global trade union organisations.
- Using collective agreements, and grievance and disciplinary procedures. Developing a strategy when dealing with members' problems.
This event is for NUJ members only. Please consider joining the NUJ if you would like to attend this event.
