This four-stage programme of courses is for branch and chapel reps, either freelance or employed, with members who work in diverse ways. It is relevant for all reps, whether you are new to your role or have more experience. The courses are updated regularly to look at new working practices and laws. They are customised to meet the needs of all NUJ reps and members, regardless of what work you do or how you do it.
This is the first part of the NUJ reps training programme. There are three others. After completing all four, you may feel confident that you have covered all you need to know in order to deal with your members’ day to day issues in a branch or chapel. We ask that you complete the courses in order, beginning with stage 1, as the programme gradually builds on your knowledge and experience.
- Identifying the main roles, responsibilities and skills related to being an NUJ branch or chapel representative.
- Exploring the law and understanding how a rep can apply good practice when asserting their rights.
- Understanding the structure of the NUJ and the union’s links to local, national and global trade union organisations.
- Knowing how to set up a chapel and branch.
