Is that health service "reform" or health service "privatisation"? Reporting the NHS and the difficulties journalists face in finding "the truth" amid the onslaught of propaganda from government, commercial PRs, lobbyists and campaigners is the topic tackled at LFB's February meeting by speakers John Lister and Gay Lee.
NUJ stalwart John Lister, a freelance journo and campaigner, is also part-time senior lecturer in Health Journalism at Coventry University. He has several books on health reforms and his latest addresses the reporting side. First Do No Harm: The Principles And Practice Of Health Journalism (Libri Publishing), comes out in May. More details can be found on the European health journalism website.
As a nurse or midwife for more than 30 years – currently at a London hospice – Gay Lee will give a health worker's point of view on media coverage of the issues. An RCN rep and Keep Our NHS Public campaigner, she also sometimes writes for nursing magazines and other publications.
This event is for NUJ members only. Please consider joining the NUJ if you would like to attend this event.
