The CIJ Summer School is UK's only hands-on investigative conference, offering over 60 talks, workshops and lectures as well as ample networking opportunities.

The 2013 summer school will focus on high risk investigations: taking on greedy corporations, secretive governments, cheats, criminals and predatory celebrities.

The event will also be focusing on internet security and surveillance – with practical advice for journalists and everyone needing electronic protection.

Another new strand this year is web documentaries and how they can help investigative journalists, especially those working with data, present their projects on the web in an interesting and interactive way.

Keynote speakers include: Mark Williams-Thomas, Paul Connew and Gavin Millar QC – talking about the case of Jimmy Savile.

The programme includes:

  • Data journalism
  • Understanding company accounts
  • Tax avoidance
  • Libel and privacy law
  • NEW! Internet security and surveillance
  • NEW! Web documentaries
  • Covert filming
  • Courts and reporting local councils
  • Story-based inquiry
  • Freedom of Information Act
