This one-day course organised by the NUJ and London Freelance Branch for working journalists will cover topics including: understanding data and risk, assessing data quality, surveys, data sources such as government and open data, predictions (and how they should generally be avoided), freedom of information, combining and manipulating data, graphing and mapping.
Attendees will need to bring their own laptop or tablet device, with preferably a keyboard and spreadsheet software, such as Microsoft Excel or OpenOffice, which can be downloaded free from openoffice.org.
Tutor: SA Mathieson is a freelance analyst, journalist and editor, covering IT, government and healthcare.
The course fee includes lunch.
