Thinking of going freelance, but unsure how to do it? Already freelance and working, but struggling with running a small business? Then Going Freelance is the course for you. Learn the basics of running a small freelance business efficiently, leaving you the space to concentrate on working.
This online webinar covers areas such as:
- Savings cushions and budgeting, working out what you need to earn
- Tax and national insurance
- Doing your accounts
- Getting paid by clients
- Finding work
- Using your networks
- Marketing yourself
- Transferable skills
This course is suitable for any journalist or photographer considering taking the plunge into self-employment.
The session will take place on Zoom and registered participants will receive a login two hours before the workshop starts. Participants are encouraged to ask questions.
Your tutor Louise Bolotin is an experienced journalist and has been freelance since 2005. She has written for a wide range of newspapers and magazines, worked in BBC local radio and was co-founder of hyperlocal news website Inside the M60 in Manchester. She has a keen interest in the business aspects of freelancing and previously taught courses at the NUJ's headquarters.
NOTE: This course is free to members of Manchester and Salford NUJ, who have priority book. A limited number of free places are available to NUJ members from other branches. Non-members: £10
