Andrew Wiard has been a freelance photographer since 1974, initially at Report of London where he was mentored by Simon Guttmann, one of the founding fathers of modern photojournalism. He later became the main photographer there in the 1980’s. Since then, apart from brief periods distributing through photos agencies Select and Network, and as a founder of Report Digital, he has worked alone continuing in the Report tradition. In the NUJ he represented the union campaigning for the reforms of the Copyright Designs and Patents Act 1988, led the campaign to replace the Metropolitan Police Card with the UK Press Card, wrote the first Photographic section of the NUJ Freelance Fees Guide, and chairs the NUJ’s Photographers’ Council. Also a co-founder of both EPUK  ( Editorial Photographers UK & Ireland ) and copyright activists Stop 43, and is currently on the board of the BPPA ( British Press Photographers’ Association ).

Phil Sutcliffe has been a journalist and NUJ member since serving an apprenticeship on the Newcastle Evening Chronicle, 1970-2. He first went freelance a couple of years later and since totted up 35 mainly London-based years as a journo of the self-employed kind. Written mainly about music for Sounds, Smash Hits, The Face, Q, Mojo, LA Times, but also other stuff for other outlets including a bit of radio, TV, and online, and spells of subbing, production editing, book writing – plus training freelances in the business side of their working lives for the NUJ and others since 1988-ish. NUJ Member of Honour and elected member of NUJ Freelance Industrial Council and Copyright Committee for many years.
