Details
For the first time ever Canadian and UK science writers’ associations have come together this year to help exchange expertise and know-how between their members.
Science Writers and Communicators of Canada and the Association of British Science Writers are this year offering one lucky editor from a UK-based publication a chance to fly over to Ottawa to SWCC's four-day annual meeting in September, jam-packed with professional development workshops, scientific presentations and lab visits.
The editor will receive free registration, economy travel and accommodation for four days.
The editor will take part in a 'Dragon's Den' style pitch session alongside their Canadian colleagues, listening to and giving feedback on story ideas from freelance writers, scientists and public information officers. The conference will provide the editor with the opportunity to meet potential new contributors, freelancers and writers, as well as dig up story ideas, while the Canadian writers will get an insight into UK’s science media market and an introduction to new publications.
It is hosted by Canada’s International Development Research Centre and the theme of this year’s conference is The People behind the Story.
If you are interested, send an email to info@absw.org.uk by Tuesday 15 August telling us who you are and why you would be a good candidate, in no more than 100 words. You must be an ABSW member to apply.
