Three Minute Theatre Afflecks Arcade 35-39 Oldham Street Manchester

Manchester and Salford branch is screening Citizenfour a documentary about Edward Snowden - this month in association with Open Rights Group.

We'll be discussing how the benefits of digital technology also create new threats to our human rights and to how we work as journalists.

The event is open to all - you don't have to be in the NUJ or a journalist - £4 entry to cover licence fees and venue costs.

Citizenfour is a real life thriller, unfolding by the minute, giving audiences unprecedented access to filmmaker Laura Poitras and journalist Glenn Greenwald’s encounters with Edward Snowden in Hong Kong, as he hands over classified documents providing evidence of mass indiscriminate and illegal invasions of privacy by the National Security Agency (NSA).

The film not only shows you the dangers of governmental surveillance - it makes you feel them. After seeing the film, you will never think the same way about your phone, email, credit card, web browser, or profile, ever again.

The film has been awarded 30 awards, including BAFTA: Best Documentary, Directors Guild of America: Outstanding Directorial Achievement, London Critics Circle: Best Documentary.
