Guest speaker at the rapidly expanding Brighton and Sussex branch's next meeting is MP Lloyd Russell-Moyle – the Labour backbencher who moved parliament with his dramatic HIV speech, then shocked it by brandishing the ceremonial mace.
Branch secretary Brian Williams says: "We wanted to give NUJ members the chance to talk directly to one of our elected representatives, so we're planning an informal Q&A format. It's a closed meeting of course, so what's said in the room stays in the room. But if anyone wanted to arrange an on-the-record interview with Lloyd this would be the ideal chance to do so.
"We're hoping for a big turn-out so it would be helpful to have an idea about numbers in case we have to find a bigger venue. If you are an NUJ member and fancy coming, RSVP via Facebook or email. And if you know a non-member who would like to hear what Lloyd has to say and wants to know more about the union, get them to give us a shout."
The meeting is on Thursday 31 January at the Craft Beer Co pub in Upper North Street, Brighton. It starts at 7.30pm.
