Journalists' Copyright Fund

The NUJ, CIOJ and Society of Authors administer the Journalists’ Copyright Fund which awards grants for projects associated with copyright and for the benefit of journalists and the general journalistic community.

The Journalists' Copyright Fund (JCF) is a non-profit making body, run for journalists, giving grants for projects associated with copyright and for the benefit of all journalists and the general journalistic community.

The JCF has allocated an amount of money each year with which to support projects that meet strict criteria. The JCF typically allocates between £200 to £6,000, and will consider one off applications or applications for up to three (3) years’ funding.

Generally, self-published projects will not be funded.

The objects of the Fund

The objects of the Fund are set out in its Deed of Trust and are as follows:

  1. To provide relief from poverty by making grants to persons who wish to enter the profession of journalism or who are practising journalists and who have need for training in the professional skills of journalism.
  2. To advance education by the support and funding of research and publication of literature and written material for journalists including guides, codes of conducts, directories and other publications.
  3. For such other objects in connection with journalism and/or the support of journalists as the Trustees may in their absolute discretion think fit.

Who can apply?

The Journalists’ Copyright Fund Trustees meet three times a year and applications are invited from individuals, charities, unions and other organisations for projects that meet one or more of the criteria.
