Photographers' Summit 2017

This one-day event for lens-focused members will bring together industry experts to discuss the future of news, features and PR photography and will provide information on issues such as videography, copyright, privacy and new ways to make money as a press photographer. It includes a competition for NUJ photographers. Read Tim Dawson's curtain-raiser to the event p10-11 of NUJ Informed. Book your place on the NUJ website.

New year courses

Why not start the year by signing up for NUJ courses including Getting Started as a Freelance on Saturday 21 January, Pitch and Deal on Saturday 28 January and Video for Journalism: shooting and editing footage on Thursday 2 February. All three courses will be held at Headland House, NUJ HQ, London.

Save BBC Radio

The BBC intends to outsource 60 per cent of its radio production, a huge leap from the current 20 per cent. Sign this SomeOfUs petition asking Theresa May to stop the privatisation of BBC Radio. Write to your MP and send him/her the NUJ briefing paper.

Contact your MP and ask him/her to sign Early day motion 551 and to write to Tony Hall, BBC director general, and Karen Bradley, Culture Secretary, to tell them privatisation of BBC radio will damage the service. You can download and send them the NUJ briefing. You can contact your MP via the Write to Them website. Invite a local BBC radio rep to your next branch or chapel meeting, email broadcasting@nuj.org.uk if you need help with making contact.
